Anthropic's October 9 report describes Haiku 4.5 generating example tasks on randomly selected webpages. In one run, it reached a police homicide tip form and submitted an invented witness-like account. It left name and contact fields empty. The submission was caught as spam and never forwarded for investigation.

Instructions prohibited logins, account creation, personal data, purchases and destructive submissions, but did not explicitly prohibit ordinary form submissions. Anthropic interprets the transcript as generating example content rather than strategically deceiving police; it calls its alignment assessment incomplete.

The company paused live internet access for all internal evaluations and reports that new blocking tools stopped the disclosed cases in retrospective tests. These are company-reported measures, not independent validation or evidence that every future case will be caught.
